Board of DirectorsArshia Raafat, President Arshia Raafat is an Initiative Lead with eHealth Ontario's Ontario Laboratories Information Systems program and has been volunteering with Times Change since 2007 and has been serving as President since 2010. Prior to joining eHealth Ontario she worked with a number of non-profit organizations including the Canadian Diabetes Association, Social Planning Toronto and Skills for Change and specializes in Marketing and Strategic Planning. Arshia has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. As someone who has gone through a major career transition herself, she understands the great value Times Change brings to women and the necessity of the services it provides and looks forward to continuing working with the organization.
Mala Persaud, Vice-President Mala Persaud is a Human Resources (HR) Strategic Planner with the provincial government and is in her first year with the board. Prior to joining the public service, she worked in the private sector primarily in the field of compensation, benefits and HR Information management. She holds a Master Certificate as a Business Analyst from York University and has worked more that 25 years in the HR field. She looks forward to be actively involved in her role as a board member and believes that women are the untapped resources for the future and is very interested in how Times Change helps women to become more marketable to employers.
Sarah Woods, Secretary Sarah Woods is in her second year as a member of the Board of Directors at Times Change. Sarah studied at the University of Guelph and holds a M.A. Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy and a BAS with minors in Psychology and Criminal Justice and Public Policy. Sarah is currently the Youth Services Manager at Community MicroSkills Development Centre where she oversees programming for youth aged 13-29 including education support, employment support, leadership development, newcomer services and other support interventions. Sarah looks forward to her involvement with Times Change and helping women find equity in the labour market.
Susan Fralick, Treasurer Susan Fralick is a Certified General Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from McMaster University. She has worked in the accounting field for 15 years, primarily in the private sector as an Accounting Manager. In her third year serving on the Board for Times Change she looks forward to contributing to the Times Change mission, supporting women in finding satisfying ways to earn a living.
Laura Lavie, Director Laura Lavie comes to the Times Change Board with years of international experience in the non-profit field, particularly in the realm of resource development. She is currently working at at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto as Fund Development Officer, having recently arrived from the Middle East where she was responsible for ASSAF - Aid Organization for Refugees and Asylum Seekers' fundraising activities in addition to serving as Grants and Project Development Officer at the Shimon Peres Centre for Peace. In addition to current voluntary roles within progressive peace organizations, Laura holds a BA Honours Degree from Glasgow School of Art, and is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). As a former client, and as a working professional with a young family, Laura is a firm supporter of Times Change's commitment to advancing the capacities of women in the workplace - and wishes to see a future in which women will not have to furiously debate and juggle their multitude of roles in order to fulfill their professional, academic and personal lives.
Maureen Spencer, Director Maureen Spencer is starting her first year as a member of the Board of Directors. She has been a volunteer at Times Change for almost two years both on the front desk and helping clients through the drop in resume clinic. This fall she will be representing Times Change in the United Way Speakers Bureau. Maureen was a senior human resources consultant at the City of Toronto for 28 years and retired in 2009. She holds a B.A. Special Studies Sociology from the University of Leeds, England and a Masters in Adult Education from the University of Toronto. She chose to volunteer at Times Change because of her background in human resources and employment equity and realised that she had been a client of the agency when it started in 1974. She looks forward to participating in the agency's governance. |
