I have been teaching in the Toronto public school system at the elementary level (including special education) for the past ten years. I am also in my early 50's and knew my age might be a challenging factor in making a career change.
I attended a 4 day workshop about job hunting, interviewing, cover letter and resume writing skills with a total of approximately 10 other women from all walks of life. I found the workshop to be extremely practical, informative and supportive. We received many concise and clear hand outs about the various aspects of job hunting and did interactive exercises both in small and large groups. All these activities were very helpful even though I've done a number of interviews over the years.
It was also extremely supportive to be in a room with others who are going through similar things. It was an arena for providing encouragement, ideas and solutions to some challenging issues. I have maintained contact with some of the women from the group.
Times Change has made it possible for me to refocus my frustration and discouragement into a positive experience.
